Roles that suit each type in a group

Knowing tendencies makes splitting roles smoother and faster. Here's where each of the four naturally stands.

The short version

The four tendencies are strong at direction · mood · steadiness · checking.

If only one tendency gathers, everyone misses the same things. Someone has to cover the empty role on purpose.

Roles are a starting point, not a rule. Ask what people want to do, too.

Where each tendency naturally stands

DDirection & decisions

Sets the topic, goal and deadline. When stuck, opens the way with "Let's do this."

IPresenting & mood

Pitches ideas and wins people over. Lifts the mood when it dips.

SPace & connection

Keeps the plan moving step by step and makes sure nobody's left out.

CResearch & review

Checks sources and evidence, and catches gaps and typos at the end.

Team reports call these spots "decisions and drive," "relationships and mood," "steadiness and follow-through," and "accuracy and checking." Each type page shows which spot your type usually takes.

If you're a mixed type

Two-letter types are good at bridging two spots. DC sets direction while bringing evidence; IS opens the mood and keeps relationships going. SC keeps things moving while protecting quality; CI turns hard material into something everyone gets. One mixed type can become the bridge between very different people.

Filling the empty spots

Remember thisTendencies show where you're strong, not where you must stand. Respect anyone who wants to try a new role.

How to decide roles

  1. Share everyone's result. One team report link puts it on a single page.
  2. Check for an empty corner first.
  3. Split by natural fit, then ask once more what people want to do.
  4. Decide who will consciously cover any gap.

Examples

Running a club booth at a festival: Dominance takes the concept and deadlines, Influence the promotion and greeting visitors, Steadiness the supplies and shift schedule, Conscientiousness the budget and checklist.

A four-person class presentation: Dominance sets the outline and schedule, Conscientiousness organizes sources, Steadiness runs the check-ins, Influence presents. The night before, the Conscientiousness type's final check helps most.

Common questions

Does the leader have to be a Dominance type?

No. Dominance leads from the front, Steadiness leads by holding things steady, Influence by gathering people, Conscientiousness by setting standards.

We're all the same type. Is that OK?

You'll be in sync, but you'll miss the same things. Have one person consciously cover the axis your type uses least.

Roles are set but one person is doing everything.

Strong tendencies tend to take on more. At a check-in, ask "Who's doing the most right now?" and rebalance.
